Mineral County Health Department / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

The Mineral County Health Department is looking to fill the position of a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  The position requires a minimum of a current West Virginia License or temporary permit to practice as a licensed practical nurse.

The position description is as follows:

Under moderate supervision (RN, Physician) will assist in coordination and implementation of public health nursing services in preventive health and clinic programs including immunization, pediatric, family planning, STD, and TB programs. Examples of duties include: pt assessment, care-planning, and documentation based on individual needs and according to guidelines; review reported infectious diseases of residents - ascertain any outbreaks, complete a case report. Determine contacts of infected patients and review findings with Medical Director and assist in the dispensing of prophylaxis as mandated in protocols. Also, to input related data in the WVEDSS computer program according to established time frame requirements; Assists in Family Planning, Women's Screening and General Health clinics. Obtains health history, urine tests for GC/Chlamydia, prepare patient and supplies for exam, draws blood for rubella screen, patient education regarding birth control methods, etc. Dispenses contraceptives as ordered. Performs additional Family Planning services such as ECP, pregnancy testing, referrals, etc.; Administer childhood immunizations and vaccinations for adults on a regular basis. Provide education on the benefits of these vaccines and possible side effects. Perform monthly inventory of vaccines. Monthly check for expired vaccine. Provide outreach clinics for flu shots, vaccines, etc. when necessary; Assist in pediatric clinics with duties such as taking vital signs, height, weight, getting medical and psychosocial histories, administering immunizations if needed and making referrals for identified problems as ordered by the physician; Assist in conducting screenings, testing and treatment if necessary for STD's; Attends training seminars and conferences involving responding and planning for public health emergencies (Threat Preparedness).
